Researchers from the Institute of Forest Ecology – SlovakGlobe, Slovak Academy of Sciences, made a strong contribution to the EU Mission Adaptation Community event “Making nature-based olutions work: Enabling conditions from practice”, organised by MIP4Adapt. The online event brought together over 90 participants. More information, including the event summary report. In session Co-creation and multi-actor engagement, Prof. Tatiana Kluvankova and Dr. Stanislava Brnkalakova presented “Co-creating nature-based governance”, developed within the Horizon Europe COEVOLVERS project and NatureNetwork Task Force 6 collaboration. Their contribution introduced nature based governance as novel NBS governance, showing how governance can move beyond human-centred decision-making and recognise ecosystems, and other than human species. Furthemore they expanded framework to include also future generation as voiceless actors whose agency should be represented in transformative change.
Through Living Labs approach, they demonstrated that impactful NBS require more than technical measures. They need inclusive and adaptive governance systems that foster reciprocal relations between people and nature, reduce vulnerabilities, and support eco-social well-being. This innovative approach helps shape a new generation of nature-based governance practices with strong potential for European climate adaptation, restoration and community resilience.
